[Diana is going to have to wait a moment as Akko catches up with what's happening right now. She hadn't entirely managed to forget her own birthday. She knew it was this month. (In fact, she even knew it was this week!) But time seemed to pass her by whether she meant for it to or not, and it managed to creep on her all the same. Even more baffling, she hadn't expected Diana of all people to necessarily remember (she seemed a little too stuffy to care about things like birthdays all that much), never mind get her a present.]
[And so, she's left a moment or two staring stupidly at Diana and then down at the carefully wrapped present, which she takes more out of muscle memory that this is what you do when receiving a present than any sort of conscious thought. That doesn't come back until her cheeks turn a little pink as she realizes she didn't even know it was her own birthday and that was probably a little unfair of her to assume Diana wouldn't particularly care much about it. She might be stuffier than Akko and probably has a list of much more boring birthday parties than Akko, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't care.]

[In reality, Akko would've been correct in referring to Diana's birthday parties as boring. Her thoughts on the matter were, well... They always seemed to be more focused on showing her off as some kind of trophy, rather than an earnest celebration. Neatly structured and meticulously planned, yet she understood why. It was all part of her upbringing and grooming into the next head of the family.
